1. Amen! (D'Angelo's Back)

“Black stardom is rough, dude,” Chris Rock tells me when I reach him to talk about D. “I always say Tom Hanks is an amazing actor and Denzel Washington is a god to his people. If you’re a black ballerina, you represent the race, and you have responsibilities that go beyond your art. How dare you just be excellent?”

Very, very good read. Click the post title for the full interview in this month’s issue of GQ.

Since the days of jamming to her self-titled debut album and Never Say Never on crowded trains via Walkman (yes, with a cassette tape, lol), I’ve been a huge fan of Brandy’s. Her latest single - a catchy little tune - features a rapping Chris Brown and showcases those angelic vocals of hers. I think it’s a great follow up to the first single - a girl power duet ballad with Monica (great strategy) - It All Belongs To Me.

I’m excited for the comeback album, Two Eleven, set for release next month (June 2012) especially since she’s rumored to have collaborated with two of my favorite young songwriters in the game right now (Frank Ocean and Drake).

Any other B-Rocka fans out there? How do you guys feel about the second single?

These two guys are so damn on point, it’s ridiculous. Scary that they’re getting better with each track. Peace to Tiron, Ayomari and the Cafeteria Line. Buy their latest effort, A Sucker For Pumps here.

    I absolutely adore this song.

  7. dameinspired:

All thanks to Live At The Loft, an amazing new musical showcase you’re sure to stalk soon, I had the chance to see Cubic Zirconia, a group I had never heard of before the performance you’re watching above.

Two men. One woman. (And a handsome drummer boy man). On stage, the drums led the tempo, cymbals clashed, keys started dancing and then she came, slyly entering through the crowd, tambourine in air. You got me black… hips and shoulders swaying, fingers drumming on thighs, heels keeping beat. I wanted to know who the hell this group was and by the looks of everyone else’s synced movements, they did too. You got me black and blue…The music is sex (‘Y’ is optional). It’s freeing. It’s enraged. It’s everything funky. Nous voulons plus!

    Fuckin jam man.

PS- got a few words in with the band members after the performance— they’re just as stinkin awesome in person.
