Notes from today’s workshops. #CFES #ReachingNewHeights (Taken with Instagram at The Essex Inn)
Camp Session 1 ends this Tuesday. I’ll be riding back to NYC with our campers, hopping off the bus and heading STRAIGHT to Galapagos Art Space to set up shop with the team. It’s gonna be an incredible show.
Because of j.’s commitment to being a change agent dedicated to the advancement of education, the show is open to ages 16+. Click the flyer and follow the link to get advance tickets.
Next Tuesday, July 19: j.RENEÉ live with Carlitta Durand, Likwuid + Gummy Bears & Champagne. Hosted by comedian, Mike Brown, music by DJ Sosa.
Come out and celebrate the release of j.’s debut EP, Uni.VERSE — it’s gonna be amazing!
We’ve got a LOT of content to capture this summer so we’re on the hunt for a super talented person to support our tour videographer. Here’s the scoop…
Job/Internship type:
Unpaid Internship (may lead to paid work in the fall, traveling with the nationwide tour)
Location:
New York, NY
…
This makes me happy. Press play — and if it makes you feel the same, pass the link along.
We’ve held on to this video long enough. Here’s the footage from our final stop on the tour at Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing & Visual Arts.
I (Holley Monelle) cried when I watched it for the first time because it mirrored exactly what we set out to do with the tour and it reminded me that this was never impossible.
Thank you guys for all the support. We’ve got a great summer lined up and are looking forward to kicking the nationwide tour off this fall. Stay tuned for all the details.
Potential has been KILLING on the editing for these vids. I’m proud of his work.
Good morning! High of 80 degrees in NYC. Last day of Spring Break. Goodies in tow!
We’re feeling great and we hope you all are too. We promised to release footage from our fourth stop on the tour after accumulating 300 likes on Facebook. A BIG shout out goes to K. West from the Wadleigh Secondary School for making that happen!
Once we reach 350 likes, we’ll release the footage from the final concert. The team has seen it and it made two of us cry (I won’t tell which two, =P). So, if you like us, proclaim it to the world: http://facebook.com/HallPassTour
And now, without further ado, Period 4: Paul Robeson High School for Business and Technology
Enjoy!

We are in a very good place with the tour right now and couldn’t be more humbled and grateful. Here’s a mash-up of some opening night footage from our tour videographer, Potential. Lots more updates coming soon!

Thank you, dame.inspired!
I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve called a foul-mouthed, loud-speaking high school student a “hooligan” or walked past that potentially good kid hanging on the block with the wrong crowd. I also couldn’t tell you one time I did something about it— like pull them over and offer some advice so they have a chance to better themselves. Nope. Not once.
I’m glad I can’t say the same about this group of fellows: Holley Monelle, j. RENEÉ, ScienZe, and DJ Kraff Swagger. Unlike so many of us who more readily tweet (or RT) punch lines about this misguided generation, these individuals have partnered with CFES to actually do something about it. The Hall Pass Tour is a series of concerts to be held at various New York City middle schools and high schools. Its mission? Access and Achievement; providing a creative platform for communities to support and guide their children into changing phrases like “if I apply to college; if I’m accepted” to “when I apply; when I’m accepted.” Alongside headliners, ScienZe and j. RENEÉ, will be ultra talented middle school and HS students who auditioned for a performing spot in these concerts; a move that is as symbolic of the tour’s mission itself- that if you truly want something, all you have to do is get on that stage and go for it.
What’s most inspiring about this tour is that I remember when it was just a notion. In the midst of passive chatter about goals and aspirations, Holley blurted out the “wouldn’t it be dope if…” idea to host a citywide public school concert tour. I was a fly on the wall as an idea turned into action, scribbled notes on scrap paper turned into company retreat presentations, and all roadblocks gave way. Countless emails, several major sponsors such as Boundless NY, Apt No.7, Scratch DJ Academy and Staple | Reed Space, and a whole lot of gumption later- the Hall Pass Tour is her dream; their dreams, dragged clear into fruition.
Here’s to infinite possibilities!
The tour heads to rural, upstate NY in the Spring and next year, it goes nationwide. I can’t wait.
